When you buy a MiiR product, we set aside a portion of revenue from the sale, earmarked for our giving initiatives. These earmarked dollars accumulate over time and soon, it's time to put them to work. The MiiR impact team works closely with our aligned giving partners to identify project opportunities and determine when and where these dollars can have a lasting and direct impact. Once a project has been selected and agreement signed, accumulated give dollars are handed over to our giving partner. Now the important work can begin! The project officially commences and over time, our giving partner reports back on its progress, which we then share with our community in words, photos and film, bringing Product to Project™ full circle.
MiiR products are created with function and simplicity in mind, and with an end result to further improve lives and build community. We call ourselves a Product to Project™ company, which is our way of saying every purchase of a MiiR product supports a trackable giving project. We accomplish this by giving 3% of revenue to clean water and health projects around the world, and reporting back to our customers GPS coordinates, photos and achieved outcomes for total transparency.
We give 3% of revenue to carefully selected nonprofit organizations with a proven track record. Our giving partners value relationship, progress and transparency, and implement sustainable methods of empowerment, investing in clean water and health projects around the world. These two huge social and environmental issues are the cornerstones of our giving.
Examples of completed projects range from the installation of water filtration systems, drinking and handwashing stations in public schools in Kathmandu, Nepal, to the purchase of fixtures and equipment (things like desks and chalkboards) to support the opening of Chariot High School in Buchanan, Liberia.
We love to give! At the end of 2016, we had distributed over $400,000 to our giving partners in 15 countries since our inception in 2010. 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate smart environmental giving. We recognize that the current level of environmental giving - only 3% of total philanthropy - is not enough to solve the most pressing issues facing our planet.

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, our members have given more than $175 million to environmental nonprofits to date. Today, 1% for the Planet is a network of more than 1,200 member businesses, a new and expanding core with hundreds of individual members, and thousands of nonprofit partners in more than 60 countries.
